2012-15 Fiat Freemont recalled for spare wheel fix
Fiat has issued a recall for 4221 of its 2012 to 2015 model-year Freemont SUVs over concerns the spare wheel and tyre do not comply with Australian Design Rules.
The car maker reports that the tyre placard may have been printed with incorrect information regarding the spare wheel and tyre size.
This means these vehicles are not compliant with Australian Design Rule 42/04 - General Safety Equipment, and considered unroadworthy.
Fiat adds that if an incorrect spare tyre is fitted, this could pose an accident hazard.
The 4221 recalled Freemonts were produced from 5 December 2012 through to 3 July 2015. A list of the affected VIN ranges can be viewed here.
However, not all of the affected vehicles have been sold to customers, with many still in dealer stock.
Owners of the recalled vehicles will be notified by Fiat Chrysler Australia (FCA), and are encouraged to present their Freemont to their local Chrysler Fiat Jeep Dodge dealership where a tyre placard overlay will be installed over the existing one.
This latest recall comes just a week after the closely-related Dodge Journey was recalled for a faulty transaxle.
