THE WEEK IN NEWS:

Australia is on track to break its new-vehicle sales record in 2016. At the end of July, sales were up 2.8 per cent year-to-date, with Ford recording the biggest volume growth so far.


Honda Australia is tipping double-digit growth in 2017 thanks to the newly arrived Civic sedan, as well as both the Civic hatch and CR-V that are due next year.


The next-generation Honda Civic Type R has been confirmed for Australia.


Honda Australia says it will need another 12 months to fix all of its cars affected by the Takata airbag recall. There's a lot.


Overseas, Mitsubishi has been forced to recall more than 82,000 2015 and 2016 model-year Outlander Sport (ASX) and 2016 Lancer and Outlander vehicles in the US over concerns of a laggy transmission. It's not yet known whether vehicles in Australia are affected.
