Hot Kia cee’d racer previewed for TCR series – video
The Kia cee’d GT, five-door twin to the three-door Pro_cee’d GT that left Australia last year, is gearing up for the 2017 TCR International Series touring car championship - and it looks tough.
Stohl Advanced Research and Development (STARD) is an Austria-based company that is Kia’s authorised developer for the TCR racing series, and has released a video of its upcoming Korean track car.
The TCR International Series launched last year, and was founded by the former boss of the well-known World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), Marcello Lotti, which sees racing versions of numerous well-known models lining up on the starting grid - including the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Ford Focus ST, Honda Civic, Opel (Holden) Astra, Renault Megane RS and Volkswagen Golf GTI.
STARD’s Kia cee’d GT TCR will be officially presented in October, ahead of the 2017 season.
According to STARD, the cee’d GT TCR will feature a 243kW 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, sending power to the front wheels through a sequential paddle-shift transmission to comply with TCR and Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) regulations.
The Kia race car looks the business, with its extensive aero package and stealthy grey paint - which will no doubt be covered up by sponsor branding when it hits the track - while huge brakes sit behind the big racing wheels.
Adding to the visual drama are bonnet vents, large air intakes and flared wheel arches.
Few other details have been revealed so far, so we’ll have to wait until October for the official reveal and hopefully a track debut. Stay tuned for an update.
