Deals on wheels for August 20

It’s time for the latest instalment of Deals on Wheels, which this week looks at six factory-backed special offers for all you weekend shoppers.

This isn’t a promotional campaign, just us trying to offer you some interesting suggestions if you’re in the market for some new wheels.

Nissan Qashqai ST auto — $26,990 drive-away

This is a saving of more than $5000. Considering how good the UK-made Qashqai is, this is a hell of a deal. We’d say the Honda HR-V (also $26,990 drive-away) is still the better package, but the Nissan is worth a look.

The Qashqai comes with a 2.0-litre petrol engine with a CVT sending torque to the front wheels, plus standard equipment such as a reversing camera, LED daytime running lights and an electric parking brake.

Volkswagen Passat sedan

Volkswagen really wants you to use its finance program. If you buy a Passat sedan this way, you’ll get five-years of free servicing and an extended five-year warranty.

Remember, a small suite of updates are due on the Passat soon for MY17, so haggle hard and score yourself a deal on one of the market’s best mid-sized cars.

Isuzu D-Max 4x4 LS-M Crew Cab — $39,990 drive-away

The tough as nails D-Max is far from refined, but it’s one of the strongest utes you can buy. If you actually want to work, it’ll do the job without fuss.

The standout deal at the moment is the mid-range LS-M dual cab at $39,990 drive-away, which is a saving before you even haggle of $9000.

This version gets a 3.5-tonne towing capacity, 16-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, Bluetooth/iPod connectivity and the trusty 3.0-litre turbo diesel engine with five-speed manual gearbox.

Hyundai i40 Tourer 1.7 CRDi Premium Series II — $43,025 drive-away

Hyundai is offering private buyers a fleet discount across the i40 range. For us, the top-spec i40 Premium in 1.7 diesel guise is the best bet. It’s a huge, semi-premium offering.

The discount on offer equates to a saving of $5840. Not bad for a wagon with leather seats, a sunroof, a large screen with sat-nav, a massive boot and a frugal diesel engine.

Volvo XC90 D5 Inscription — $89,888 drive-away

The lauded Volvo XC90 is already the subject of factory-backed deals. The MY16 XC90 D5 Inscription (D5 denotes diesel, a 165kW/470Nm 2.0-litre) is going for $89,888 drive-away, representing a saving of more than $16,000 over the usual drive-away price.

That’s a pretty good deal for the seven-seat Swedish family SUV that is getting rave reviews from all over.

BMW 125i with M Sport Pack — $49,900 drive-away

Given the recommended retail price (RRP) of this German performance hatch is $48,900 before on-road costs, you’re saving thousands with this deal.

The 1 Series has a unique selling-point, in that it is rear-wheel drive. This version has a 165kW/310Nm 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine that is up there with the Golf GTI, and comes with either an eight-speed auto or six-speed manual for the same price.

Worth a look for potential hot hatch buyers, right?
