A new Holden Barina R model has joined the local line-up, adding styling enhancements and extra equipment to the brand's light hatch.

Based on the entry-level CD variant, the Barina R gets the sporty look of the hotter turbocharged RS for only $1000 more than its price-leading donor car.

Additions as part of the R pack include; 17-inch RS alloy wheel and tyre package, RS-style rear roof spoiler, MyLink infotainment system, rear-view camera and front fog lamps.

Starting at $16,390 plus on-road costs for the five-speed manual and $18,590 for the six-speed auto, the Barina R goes on sale on the 8th of August.
