2017 Honda NSX price confirmed at $420,000

The Australian price of the Honda NSX has now been confirmed at $420,000 plus on-road costs, making it even more expensive than previously reported.

Just one specification will be offered in Australia, available to order today ahead of early 2017 deliveries, with all options boxes ticked as standard equipment.

The 2017 Honda NSX is powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder engine coupled to an advanced electric drive system, with a total system power output of 427kW and 646Nm.

Those numbers put the Japanese supercar in the same league as the Lamborghini Huracan, Audi R8, Porsche 911 Turbo and entry models from the McLaren range.

From a pricing perspective, it's more expensive than exotics like the ageing $345,000 Maserati GranTurismo Stradale and $356,800 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S, along with the new $354,900 Audi R8 V10 and $389,900 R8 V10 Plus and even the rear-wheel-drive Lamborghini Huracan LP580-2 ($378,900).

The new NSX is fractionally cheaper than the all-paw Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 ($428,000) or a Ferrari 488 GTB ($469,988). And, as far as Japanese rivals go, it's more than double the price of the current $182,500 flagship Nissan GT-R Black Edition.

Honda Australia's pricing position for the NSX sees the car equipped with plenty of features, most of which are optional in other markets. These include the carbon-fibre exterior and interior packages as standard, along with carbon-ceramic brakes.

The NSX will also become the first hybrid supercar officially on sale in Australia.

“The all-new Honda NSX brings hypercar technology to the supercar category, as the first hybrid supercar on Australian roads,” said Honda Australia managing director, Stephen Collins.

The new NSX aims to help revive a sporting image for the Honda brand in Australia. The supercar will be supported by the upcoming Civic Type-R, which is expected towards the end of next year.

“The arrival of the Honda NSX is an important signal to our Australian customers that Honda is truly a technology and engineering company that can deliver not only efficient, well-packaged small cars, people movers and SUVs, but also a high-performance hybrid supercar,” Collins said.

The most expensive Honda to ever go on sale in Australia will be available in a range of eight exterior colours and a combination of four interior trims. The three solid colours are standard, with another three metallic colours adding a further $1500 to the price. The two hero colours are an additional $10,000.

The Honda NSX will be available nationally from just five dealers, Yarra Honda (VIC), Scotts Honda (NSW), Austral Honda (QLD), Nordic Honda (SA) and Burswood Honda (WA).
