The XV Hybrid tS combines an electric motor with the non-hybrid model’s 110kW/196Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine - though the company doesn’t quote combined outputs.
Stepping up to the STI-enhanced model adds a sportier suspension set-up to deliver a “feel-good experience in all road-conditions”.
Exterior additions include new 17-inch alloy wheels with orange highlights, STI-designed front spoiler and side skirts with orange highlights, STI-badged fog lamp trim, black door mirrors, dark grey front grille, rear roof spoiler with orange highlight, STI badges front and rear, along with a tS badge on the boot.
Inside, the XV Hybrid tS adds orange highlights throughout the cabin, including on the gear knob, steering wheel, seats, climate controls, headrests, door trims and arm rests, along with STI-branded side sill plates.
Three colours are offered; Crystal Black, Crystal White Pearl and Hyper Blue. Crystal White Pearl is a 32,400 yen ($411) option.
The Subaru XV Hybrid tS starts at 3,326,400 yen ($42,171) including the Japanese consumption tax, and is available to pre-order now.
While the company’s local arm has ruled out any chance of offering the XV Hybrid in Australia - despite earlier talk of local potential - Subaru recently previewed the next-generation model at this year’s Geneva motor show with the XV concept.
The concept incidentally featured numerous orange highlights throughout the exterior, including on the wheels, grille and roof rails - just like the XV Hybrid tS.
It seems the new XV will keep to the winning formula of the current car, in looking very much like a jacked-up Impreza hatch - think Outback and Liberty wagon.
Details of the next-generation car are limited, however rumours suggest we could see the production version make its debut sometime next year as a ‘2018’ model in the States.
