The funky new Suzuki Ignis is still on the radar for a potential Australian launch, according to the company’s local arm.

Andrew Moore, general manager of Suzuki Australia, told CarAdvice today that while the model is still not confirmed for our market, he’d like to see the Ignis join the brand’s SUV range alongside the current S-CrossVitara and Grand Vitara.

“We’re very keen to see the Ignis in Australia, from a (local) perspective, but we’re still looking at a lot of things like exchange rates,” he said.

“We think, as a brand that wants to be strong in the SUV segment, obviously, having a light SUV in the line-up would be a good thing.

Adding a light SUV to its local range would bolster the brand’s mission to be a leader in both the SUV and compact car segments, Moore said.

First revealed at the 2015 Tokyo motor show, the Suzuki Ignis is the production version of the iM-4 concept that debuted in Geneva earlier that year.

Should the Ignis get the green light for Australia, a mid- to late-2017 launch is likely, as production for Europe commences later this year.
