Ford calls for developers to dive into Sync 3 app creation, Aussies welcome
Ford has released new emulator software designed to encourage developers to create and test apps for compatibility with its latest infotainment system Sync 3 - including Australians.
The new Sync 3 AppLink emulator is free to download, and allows software creators to test how an app will look and work on the Sync 3 interface using their own computers - rather than having to get their hands on a suitably-equipped Ford car.
Developers are also able to set certain conditions - including vehicle speed, location, temperature and mileage - to test how the app responds to each aspect.
Ford’s developer program has over 15,000 registered users and 90 AppLink-compatible apps globally.
Australia
Although the Sync 3 infotainment system has only just started rolling out across Ford’s Australian line-up, the company’s local arm is calling for developers Down Under to create an app-based experience that is tailored for the Aussie market.
Ford has already done some localisation in testing the system’s voice recognition function for the Australian accent, but the company believes local developers can give Sync 3 an “even stronger Australian flavour”.
Developers can access the software at developer.ford.com.
Sync 3 is now available in the Focus and Mondeo, and will soon be available in the Ranger, Mustang and Everest by the end of the year.
