2016 BMW M5 Competition Edition revealed

A new BMW M5 Competition Edition special has been revealed this week, likely representing the last offering in the powerful sedan's current generation.

Spy photos published in recent months have confirmed that we can expect to see an all-new M5 very soon, alongside the new-generation 5 Series sedan expected to debut later this year.

This new special-edition model builds on the features and upgrades applied to the '30 Jahre M5' (30 years of M5) model in 2014, in a fashion similar to the relationship between the 30 Jahre M3 and the M3 Competition pack.

As with the Jahre, the Competition Edition sees power in the M5's biturbo V8 boosted a further 29kW and 20Nm to 441kW and 700Nm, and the 0-100km/h time of 3.9 seconds is likewise unchanged.

Production of the M5 Competition Edition will be limited to 200 units, and none of them will come to Australia - good news for anyone that picked up one of the 15 Jahre models offered here, bad news for those that missed out.

Of course, those that buy the full-bottle version of the 'regular' M5 in Australia are getting the Competition pack as standard, and those that buy the M5 Pure are getting into the most affordable M5 in years - so, in that, there's a little of something for everyone already on offer locally.
