2016 Suzuki Baleno:: Australian details revealed

A number of key equipment details for the incoming 2016 Suzuki Baleno hatch have surfaced on the company's Australian website, ahead of its local launch in the coming weeks.

The page details two equipment levels - GL and GLX - along with some headlining features that will come with the new hatchback.

Pricing, transmission and engine specs are still yet to be confirmed, with these details likely to come closer to the Baleno’s Australian launch.

The Baleno GL will be powered by an as-yet unidentified naturally-aspirated petrol engine, a touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation and Apple CarPlay compatibility, reversing camera, keyless entry, seven airbags, USB input and Bluetooth all as standard.

Stepping up to the GLX variant adds a new ‘Boosterjet’ direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine - likely to be a 82kW/170Nm 1.0-litre three-cylinder - along with keyless start and alloy wheels.

In the UK, the 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine is offered with the choice of a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

While we previously reported the Baleno will start around $18,000, it’s more likely that the base GL variant will kick off closer to the $15,990 plus on-roads starting price of the smaller Swift hatchback.
