2017 Hyundai i30 N spied in production body
The Hyundai i30 N hot hatch has been spied for the first time in its production body, whereas previous prototypes have used the current car's body shell.
Compared to the bread-and-butter variants of the next-generation Hyundai i30 that were spied in June, the i30 N has a new front bumper with larger air intakes, a prominent front splitter, and horizontally arrayed LED driving lights.
Around the side we can see that the i30 N sports new side sills, larger alloy wheels, low profile tyres, and red brake callipers. At the rear, the bumper has been reshaped to include false air vents, and a diffuser-style element flanked by oval exhaust tips on both sides.
According to the spy photographer, the i30 N prototype sounds good, potentially better than the current Volkswagen Golf GTI.
Under the bonnet, the i30 N is expected to feature a 2.0-litre turbocharged direct-injection four-cylinder engine producing between 180 and 195 kilowatts of power. At launch, this motor will be paired to a six-speed manual.
It's possible that Hyundai could take a leaf out of the playbooks of Volkswagen, Peugeot and Renault - offering the i30 N in two states of tune: a regular version, and one with a bit of extra power and a few extra features.
The pedestrian versions of the i30 are expected to make their debut at this year's Paris motor show at the beginning of October. Although the i30 N was originally slated for a 2018 launch, recent reports indicate that its debut has been moved forward to 2017.
When the i30 N launches, it will be the first production from company's N division, which was launched with much fanfare at the tail-end of 2013.
