Peugeot 207 GTi

Peugeot's much loved GTi small performance car range has now grown to include the new 207 GTi.

Dubbed the day to day hot hatch, it is not quite as ferocious as it's competitors with only 128 kW under the bonnet, however it will still cover 0-100 km/h in 7.1 seconds and go on to reach a top speed of 220km/h.

It is powered by a turbocharged 1.6L mated to a 5-speed manual transmission producing an aforementioned 128 kW along with a surprising 240 Nm from only 1600 rpm with a temporary 260Nm of torque available care of the "over-boost" function.

Bridgestone Potenza 205/45R17W tyres mounted on new 17” nine-spoke “Pitlane” alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, trapezoid twin chrome exhaust, “satin black” finish of the door B-post trims and hi-tech satin chrome door mirror covers complete the 207 GTi's sporting credentials.

The 207 GTi also introduces a new innovative safety mechanism called SSP (Steering Stability Program). This function manages the dialogue between the ESP system and the vehicle’s electric power steering when braking on surfaces that have different grip levels for the right-hand and left-hand wheels. The system applies more braking power to the wheels with good grip and, anticipating any vehicle instability, applies torque to the steering to help the driver achieve optimal directional control.

Whilst on paper the 207 GTi may not stack up to the like of the Mazda3 MPS or the recently reviewed HSV VXR, available now at a RRP of $33,490 it falls way short of the average $40k price tag for your everyday hot hatch - expect a full behind the wheel review in the coming weeks.
