Volkswagen is recalling 2325 vehicles from its 2016 Golf, Polo and Tiguan lines over concerns that the car’s child lock may not function correctly.
The German car maker reports that the detent lever of the child lock can break, due to potential damage that may have occurred during the manufacturing process.
As a result, the child lock can suddenly switch off, allowing the doors to be operable from inside the vehicle.
If a child inadvertently opens one of the rear doors while driving, this poses a significant risk of injury to occupants or third parties, along with damaging the vehicle.
Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by Volkswagen via mail. For more information, customers can visit their local Volkswagen service centre or contact Volkswagen customer care on 1800 607 822.
