2017 Skoda Octavia Scout pricing and specifications: 135TDI variant not available for now

The updated Skoda Octavia Scout 4x4 range launched in Australia this week, with significantly more equipment added, but the popular 135TDI variant is temporarily missing from the line-up.

Heading the list of changes to the MY17 Skoda Octavia Scout range is the extra equipment added. The base Scout 110TDI diesel 4x4 with manual gearbox climbs $300 to $33,290 plus on-road costs (or $35,990 drive-away) but gets more than $3000 of extras in return.

This includes bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, low-speed autonomous brakes, front parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, Smartlink Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity on a 6.5-inch touchscreen, rear LED lights and rear seatbelt reminders. This mirrors the additions to the MY17 Octavia range launched simultaneously.

The Scout 110TDI comes with a 2.0-litre diesel engine making 110kW between 3500rpm and 4000rpm, and 340Nm of torque from 1750rpm to 3000rpm, matched to a six-speed manual gearbox only — limiting local sales potential. Towing capacity is 2000kg (400kg more than the petrol).

All Scouts get a Haldex-clutch all-wheel drive system that automatically directs drive to the rear wheels when needed. It also has independent rear suspension, unlike the base Octavia’s torsion beam setup.

Meanwhile, the previous Octavia Scout 132TSI Premium petrol offering with DSG auto as standard has been repriced to $38,990 ($42,290 drive-away), up $500.

It gets the same added equipment as the 110TDI, but also a heap of other extras including: Alcantara/leather seats (heated up front), silver roof rails, chrome and silver body highlights, 8.0-inch screen with sat-nav, dual-zone climate control, automatic boot and electric door mirrors.

The Octavia Scout 132TSI 4x4 Premium gets a 1.8 turbo-petrol engine with 132kW (between 4500 and 6200rpm) and 280Nm (between 1350 and 4500rpm) matched to a six-speed DSG and the same Haldex 4x4 system. This is the only Octavia derivative with this engine.

You might have noticed something missing from this picture, though. The flagship Scout 4x4 135TDI with its 135kW/380Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine isn’t here.

That’s because at present, Skoda Australia cannot source this version, with the other variants' full suite of advanced standard safety gear, from the at-capacity Czech plant. However, Skoda Australia says it is hustling to get the 135TDI in MY17 updated form here as soon as it possibly can.

The absence of the 135TDI means there’s no performance-leading Scout on offer, and no diesel with DSG. This will almost certainly limit sales for the time being.

A key part of Skoda’s message is options packs. You can purchase the Premium Pack for the Scout 110TDI for $4400, giving you a diesel with the same extended features list as the 132TSI for a grand total of $37,690.

Both the 110TDI and 132TSI can also get the $1900 Tech Pack with lane assist, keyless-go, 10-speaker Canton sound system, automatic parking assist and the VW Group’s driving mode selection system (Eco, Normal, Sports etc).

Skoda Australia’s three-year Care Pack covers three-years/45,000km of scheduled servicing and extends the factory warranty to five-years, for a total payment at purchase of $2099.
