2016 Mini Carbon Edition:: JCW-inspired special on sale in Australia – UPDATE

Update - A spokesperson for Mini confirmed that not all 40 Mini Carbon Editions have been sold yet, see bottom of article for other details.

The limited-run Mini Carbon Edition has been revealed, giving the five-door Mini Cooper S Hatch a look inspired by the John Cooper Works (JCW) variant, along with a small power bump.

Limited to just 40 units nationally, the Mini Carbon Edition starts at $56,990 drive-away, and includes numerous exterior and interior enhancements, along with the aforementioned engine upgrade.

Based on the already-hot Mini Cooper S five door, the Carbon Edition features a JCW-enhanced engine tune, producing 155kW of power and 300Nm of torque from its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine - a 14kW and 20Nm increase over the standard Cooper S - mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

On the outside, the Mini Carbon Edition is finished in Midnight Black metallic paint, rides on black 17-inch JCW light alloy wheels, black highlights on the headlight and tail light surrounds, "Carbon" decals on the front doors, bonnet, roof and tailgate, along with a JCW rear spoiler and front bumper.

Staying true to the Carbon name, the special edition also includes carbon-fibre elements on the bonnet scoop and mirror caps.

Adding to the exterior enhancements, the Carbon Edition's interior features sports seats finished in Dinamica/leather trim, a sports chrono package - which adds dash-mounted instrument dials for oil pressure, boost and a stopwatch - a perforated leather steering wheel, gear lever with contrasting red stitching and John Cooper Works door sills.

The Mini Carbon Edition also comes fitted with a sports exhaust system - featuring Sport and Track modes - further enhanced by carbon-fibre exhaust tips.

Other features include adaptive dampers, LED headlights and fog lights, panoramic sunroof, anthracite headliner, stainless steel sports pedals and the ‘Wired Package’ which includes the 8.8-inch Professional Navigation system fitted as standard.

Like all Minis, the Carbon Edition is covered by the brand’s three year/unlimited kilometre warranty.

Available to order now, the Mini Carbon Edition is priced from $56,900 drive-away.

Update: A spokesperson for Mini Australia has confirmed with CarAdvice that there are still some of the 40 Mini Carbon Edition hatches for sale.

Other details confirmed include the Bluetooth remote for the sports exhaust system, which involves a physical remote that can be attached to a key ring.

Finally, despite the power and torque bump over the standard Cooper S, Mini could not confirm a 0-100km/h time for the Carbon Edition. We will update again if releases a quoted time.
