2018 Aston Martin Vantage spied

The next-generation Aston Martin Vantage has been spied on and around the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

It's hard to get a good handle on the overall design direction for the new Vantage as the front and rear ends are covered by false body panels, but, if the DB11 is any guide, expect it to feature sharper body surfacing than today's car.

Under the skin, the new Vantage will utilise a shortened version of the platform utilised by the DB11 launched earlier this year. This means that the new car, like the current one, will be a two-seat only proposition.

According the UK's vehicle registry, this prototype is powered by a 4.0-litre engine, likely an Aston Martin-tuned version of the twin-turbo V8 that's used in the Mercedes-AMG GT coupe and various other AMG models.

At present the most powerful version of the AMG 4.0-litre V8 generates 375kW of power and 700Nm of torque, although a leak in April indicated that the as-yet-unrevealed E63 S will have up to 430kW/800Nm at its disposal.

By way of comparison, the current car's 4.7-litre naturally-aspirated V8 develops a maximum of 328kW of power and 490Nm of torque in the recently revealed GT8.

As with the current car, the new Vantage will likely be offered with the option of V12 engine. In this case, the V12 engine will be a version of the company's new twin-turbo 5.2-litre V12.

Unveiled for the first time with the DB11, the new Aston Martin-developed motor churns out 447kW and 700Nm.

Rumour has it that the Vantage will debut during the third quarter of 2017 in coupe form, with a convertible likely around half-a-year after that.

If this proves to be true, don't expect to see the new Aston Martin Vantage in local showrooms before 2018.
