Deals On Wheels for June 18: Five sharp deals for weekend shoppers

It’s time for the latest instalment of Deals on Wheels, which this week looks at five factory-backed special offers for all you weekend shoppers.

This isn’t a promotional campaign, just us trying to offer you some interesting suggestions if you’re in the market for some new wheels.

Nissan Micra ST

As we know, the little Nissan Micra has now been discontinued — a result of the huge decline in micro car sales.

But stock remains and must be cleared, creating some real bargains. Is the Micra the best in class? Not quite. But at $12,990 drive-away before June 30, it’s the equal-cheapest car you can buy.

This Nissan Micra ST comes standard with six airbags (and a decent, though sub-par, four-star ANCAP rating), Bluetooth, cruise control and electric windows. It also has a turning circle of just nine metres.

The Micra ST as viewed is the five-speed manual version, but that’s the one to buy. The automatic can be had for $14,790 drive-away, still cheaper than all rivals bar the Suzuki Celerio.

For information on other key micro car offerings, read our recent five-car comparison test here.

Skoda Yeti range

Like to be different? The loveable Skoda Yeti small SUV is for you. And while it’s showing its age a bit, there’s still nothing more loveable, and almost nothing as practical.

Before June 30 you can get the base 81kW/175Nm Yeti Active 81 TSI for $24,990 drive-away with the manual gearbox or $27,290 for the auto, meaning Skoda will absorb all but $600 of the usual on-road costs.

The base Yeti gets standard features such as a 6.5-inch touchscreen, reversing camera, and cruise control. Haggle hard on the Tech Pack ($1700), which adds Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, auto parking, DAB+, Bi-xenon headlights with DRLs and more.

The 92 TSI DSG Ambition, meanwhile, is $29,990 drive-away, $800 above RRP, with its bigger 92kW/200Nm petrol engine.

In other words, a base Skoda Yeti auto is about the same money as a Honda HR-V VTi, and in the ballpark of the Mitsubishi ASX. We know which stands out more.

Ford Falcon FG X XR6 Ute

Get this Australian icon while you can, before the Falcon dies in October.

The XR6 Ute with Styleside Box can be had before June 30 for $32,540 drive-away after Ford’s $500 EOFY bonus is thrown in — a saving of about $5000 all up, over RRP.

The XR6 ute comes with the familiar 195kW/391Nm 4.0 I6 engine and a six-speed automatic gearbox (you can have a six-speed manual too).

You also get 18-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, 8.0-inch colour touchscreen, Bluetooth/USB, sports suspension and an alloy sports bar.

There’s only one other offering like it, the also-discounted Holden Ute (the Holden SV6 Ute with auto is going for $33,990 d/a with five-year warranty and three-year free servicing at the moment, which is an absolute steal too).

Toyota HiLux SR 4x4 dual-cab

Once upon a time, Toyota hardly needed to discount its top-selling HiLux. And while this beast remains the top-selling vehicle in Australia, strong rivals such as the Ford Ranger means it doesn’t simply sell itself quite as it used to.

Perhaps the strongest deal at the moment is on the work-ready SR, one spec above the Workmate. Yes, we get it, the black steel wheels aren’t for everyone…

But at $46,990 drive-away, it’s a fair saving over the regular $46,490 RRP (excluding on-roads). This deal applies to private buyers, unlike many commercial offers.

The SR spec gets the range-topping 130kW/420Nm 2.8 diesel engine and a six-speed manual gearbox, offering a 3.5 tonne towing capacity. Naturally, it’s also a 4x4 with proper low-range.

There’s also a rear diff lock, reversing camera, side steps, underbody protection and heavy duty suspension, a seven-inch touchscreen, USB and Bluetooth.

Infiniti Q50 and QX70

Infiniti Cars has steadily grown its sales in Australia, but this Japanese luxury brand is still a minnow. That means deals are on the cards.

Two are currently on offer are the Q50 GT for $49,900 drive-away (before June 30), standard with sat-nav with live traffic updates, leather seats, dual touchcreens, a 155kW/350Nm Mercedes turbo engine and a four-year/100,000km warranty with premium roadside assist.

Keep in mind the regular RRP before on-road costs is $50,900, meaning this deal is saving you thousands. Push hard and you have an interesting premium sports sedan.

The other offering is the QX70 3.7 GT large SUV for $69,900 drive-away before June 30. Keeping in mind the car has a RRP before on-roads of $75,900, you’re saving a small fortune.

Standard features include a 3.7-litre V6 petrol engine with AWD, an 8.0-inch screen, 20-inch wheels, power sunroof and tailgate and the four-year/100,000km warranty with premium roadside assist.
