2016 Mercedes-AMG GT R teased – video

A new teaser video has surfaced offering a first look at the hotly anticipated Mercedes-AMG GT R.

Touted by the brand as the “next level of performance”, the Mercedes-AMG GT R is scheduled to debut on June 24 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK.

The 22-second video offers glimpses of the new supercar, which is painted in an eye-catching matte-green finish. A fixed rear wing and ‘GT R’ badging are the most obvious differences to the ‘standard’ GT and GT S models.

What isn’t shown here are wheels, and the more aggressive bodykit that the GT R is expected to wear - as previewed by the engineering prototype that was spied in March.

The ‘#BeastOfTheGreenHell’ tones down the interior colour scheme somewhat with a predominantly black cabin with yellow highlights, similar colours to the livery seen on the Mercedes-AMG GT3 race car and C63 S Coupe Edition 1. The car’s infotainment screen also seems to show a g-force meter.

The current halo of the GT range is the GT S, which produces 375kW of power and 650Nm of torque from its twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8.

Expect the GT R to pack even more power, but weigh significantly less than the standard GT S (1645kg), and be capable of a 0-100km/h time approaching the three-second mark.

It is also more than likely that the GT R will carry a significant price increase over the GT S, which starts at $295,000 plus on-roads in Australia.

Stay tuned to CarAdvice for the global reveal of the Mercedes-AMG GT R at Goodwood on June 24.
