Toyota stand at Tokyo Motor Show

Toyota featured a high-tech approach to its stand at this year's Tokyo Motor Show with virtual test drives and interactive displays punctuating the traditional all-car stage.

On hand to discuss Toyota's vision for the future was Mr Akio Toyoda, President of Toyota Motor Corporation, who gave a brief introduction on Toyota's history before introducing two new models to the floor.

The two concept vehicles display each end of Toyota's vehicle spectrum with the TF-EVII environmentally orientated city car and FT-86 sports car unveiled.

Mr Toyoda was particularly enthusiastic upon unveiling the FT-86 concept saying that the lack of a sports car in the Toyota range made him  "as a serious car fan feel really sad".

He went on to say that he feared many car manufacturers has been too concerned with what they as a manufacturer were concerned with was often not what the customer wanted, and hoped the FT-86 would help Toyota get back to a place they had "drifted away from". I am sure the connotation was implied.

Other new models to join the Toyota stage were the new rear-wheel drive Mark X (pictured above) and Sai Hybrid.
