Toyota FT-EV II Concept

More and more compact city all electric vehicles are emerging, Subaru has the Stella, Mitsubishi has the i-Miev, Nissan has the Leaf and now Toyota is showing off the FT-EV II.

A compact electric vehicle designed primarily to drive short distances in city environments, the FT-EV II is founded on the concept of a "future mobility society in which EVs are common, and means of transport are divided according to purpose". Sounds like a setting for a cool science fiction movie.

Despite its ultra-small size, with body more compact than the "iQ", it can still seat four. It's completely driven via a drive-by-wire system connected to a joystick that controls the accelerator, brakes and steering wheel; Toyota says this allows for more room as there are no pedals.

Other cool features include see-through LED rear combination taillights, electric sliding doors on both sides.

The FT-EV II has a top speed of around 100km/h and can travel at least 90km on fully charged battery. There is no official word yet on how long it takes the battery to charge.

FT-EV II Concept dimensions:
Length 2,730 mm
Width 1,680 mm
Height 1,490 mm
Wheelbase 1,900 mm
Seating 4
