Jannarelly Design-1 retro roadster unveiled

The two-seat Jannarelly Design-1, a retro Shelby Cobra-style roadster, has made its public debut at an event in Dubai.

The Dubai-based boutique car maker launched its first car overnight after initial design sketches were published at the end of 2015.

Under the bonnet there's a naturally aspirated 3.5-litre V6 with 227kW of power and 371Nm of torque. The V6 motor drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.

The pretty roadster measures 3860mm long, 1840mm wide, 1080mm tall, and sits on a 2425mm wheelbase. The non-structural exterior body panels are crafted from fibreglass and carbon-fibre and are fixed to a MIG-welded tubular steel chassis.

All up, the Design-1 is said to weigh just 710 kilograms. Jannarelly estimates that the Design-1 can complete the 0-100km/h dash in around 4.0 seconds and has a top speed of 220km/h.

The suspension setup includes double wishbones and fully adjustable outboard coil-overs at both ends. The Design-1 rides on 16-inch three-piece lightweight alloy wheels fitted to Toyo R888 tyres, measuring 225/50 at the front and 245/45 at the rear.

Stopping power comes courtesy of ventilated disc brakes with four-piston callipers at the front, and solid discs with two-piston callipers at the rear.

Launch-Edition versions of the Jannarelly Design-1 have a number of options fitted as standard, including a carbon-fibre body kit, rear spoiler, Toyo R888 Proxes tyres, a front aeroscreen, chrome highlights, and leather upholstery.

The Launch Edition of the Design-1 is priced from US$55,000 (AUD$76,500) before taxes, and the first cars will be delivered during the third quarter of 2016.

Jannarelly vehicles will initially be available only in the Middle East and Europe, although the company is reportedly looking for a North American distributor.

The specialist car maker was founded by Anthony Jannarelly, an automotive designer, and Frederic Juillot, a custom boat builder and composite material specialist. Both men own Caterhams and have an interest in "simple cars with a strong personality and for the 60s-era motoring ingenuity and lifestyle".
