2017 Citroen C3 spied

The third-generation Citroen C3 has been spied for the first time undergoing testing on public roads in Europe.

Like the C4 Picasso, C4 Cactus and Jeep Cherokee, the new C3 will feature a two-part headlamp treatment, with a slimline upper portion featuring LED driving lights, and a larger lower unit housing the main and high beam lights.

Aside from the windscreen and front side windows, practically the entire car is covered in camouflage. Citroen's disguise team even went another step further by tracing out a false window line into the car's C-pillar.

Some of the C3's styling cues were previewed in late April when Citroen released disguised photos and videos of next year's C3 WRC rally car.

Motivation for the new C3 range will come from three- and four-cylinder turobcharged petrol and diesel engines.

Depending on which rumour you choose to believe, the new C3 is either going to debut at the 2016 Paris motor show, which starts at the beginning of October, or the 2017 Geneva motor show that takes place in March.

Regardless of when it debuts, it's not certain if the next-generation C3 will make the journey down under, as the second-generation version was withdrawn from the Australian market in 2015 due to slow sales and high prices.

The Fiesta-sized hatch managed 154 sales in 2014, well behind its premium competitors the Audi A1 (1708) and Mini (1668), not to mention its stablemate the Peugeot 208 (857).
