SUV-focussed brand Haval has announced significant drive-away price cuts across its entire Australian range this week as part of a 2016 model-year stocktake sale.
Haval, a branch of Chinese car maker Great Wall Motors, launched here late last year with the ambitious long-term goal of becoming Australia's best-selling SUV brand.
The company likely has a distant target in mind for that goal: Haval is not among the brands that report their monthly sales figures to the regular VFACTS sales/registrations report, but the car maker has confirmed with CarAdvice today that it has sold 60 vehicles year-to-date for 2016.
For now, the company has stock to clear before it rolls out new 2017 model-year offerings.
“We are a young company, but a company that learns fast,” said Haval managing director Parker Shi. “And we have learned very quickly that Australian customers appreciate a good deal when they see it.
"We are continually monitoring feedback from dealers, the media and customers and this has resulted in our first ever drive away pricing campaign,” he said.
The deal opens with the small H2, which is now priced in manual form from $23,990 drive-away. The H2 had already been reduced to $24,990 drive-away for a "limited time" in March, down from an October 2015 launch price of $26,490 plus on-road costs.
Haval has also reduced the premium payable by those that prefer an automatic transmission from $2000 to $1000.
Standout standard features for the H2 include 18-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, keyless entry and start, a 7.0-inch touchscreen with reversing camera, and rear parking sensors.
Power in the H2 is provided by a 110kW/210Nm 1.5 litre turbo-charged dual-VVT petrol engine.
The larger H8 is now priced from $38,990 drive-away for the six-speed auto-equipped Premium 4x2, down from a launch price of $41,900 plus on-road costs.
Standard features for the H8 include 18-inch alloy wheels, sunroof, 8.0-inch touchscreen with GPS satellite navigation, 10-speaker sound system and leather seats.
Upgrading to the H8 Lux adds 19-inch alloys and a powered tailgate and seats with heating, massage and ventilation functions.
The H8 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre longitudinal four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 160kW and 324Nm.
For the off-roading H9, pricing now starts at $46,490 drive-away, which means that although the initial launch price is unchanged, Haval is covering on-road costs. Standard with the H9 Premium are tri-zone climate control air-conditioning and GPS satellite navigation with free lifetime map upgrades.
Stepping up from the H9 Premium to the H9 Lux offers a $49,990 drive-away price, down from $50,990 plus on-road costs. The Lux adds a sunroof, heated/ventilated/massaging and an Infinity sound system.
Power is provided by the same 160kW/324Nm 2.0-litre turbo engine that drives the H8.
As before, All Haval SUVs are sold with a five-year/100,000km warranty, a service pricing menu and five years of free roadside assistance.
