2016 Toyota Camry pricing and specifications

Australian pricing and details for the 2016 Toyota Camry range have been announced today, with the majority of enhancements reserved for the Atara SX variant.

On sale locally from June 6, the 2016 Toyota Camry line-up now boasts Euro 5 certification to the entire engine range, along with standard ISOFIX mounts as standard on all models.

Gaining the bulk of upgrades is the Atara SX, now $1500 more expensive but with a number of cosmetic tweaks and added standard equipment.

On the outside, the 2016 Atara SX gains new 18-inch alloy wheels and red highlights to the front and rear bumpers.

Headlining its added features in the cabin is a 7.0-inch infotainment system that brings satellite navigation and Toyota Link mobile app integration, along with DAB digital radio and a new 10-speaker JBL audio system.

Other enhancements specific to the Atara SX include predictive guidelines on the standard reversing camera, and a sunshade for the rear windscreen.

Updates elsewhere in the seven-model Camry range include a 4.2-inch driver’s multi-information display in the Atara S variant, and wireless phone charging in the top-shelf Atara SL.

Standard on all Camry models are seven airbags, reversing camera, stability and traction control, along with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD).

The base Altise model now comes equipped with ISOFIX child seat mounts, along with the already standard 6.1-inch audio system and reversing camera with static guidelines, while the Altise hybrid adds keyless entry and start, along with dual-zone climate control.

Stepping up to the Atara S variant adds power-adjustable driver’s seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, Toyota Link app integration, steering wheel-mounted paddle-shifters and dual exhaust tips.

As before, the Atara SX gets a sports suspension tune, fast-ratio electric power steering to enhance feel, a sports mesh front grille, rear-lip spoiler on the bootlid and leather-accented sports seats.

Sitting atop the Camry range is the Atara SL, which comes standard with active safety systems such as pre-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, automatic high beam, blind-spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert, along with rain-sensing windscreen wipers.

Inside, the Atara SL includes wireless mobile phone charging for compatible devices, electric power adjustment for both the driver and front passenger pews with a driver’s memory function. A tilt-and-slide moonroof ($1950) is optional on both the Atara SL and Atara SX variants.

Other optional equipment includes premium paint ($450) on the Altise, Atara S and Atara, while speccing the optional moonroof and 18-inch wheel package on the Atara SL petrol adds $2950.

Petrol-powered Camry models are equipped with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, while hybrid models utilise the same 2.5-litre powerplant coupled to an electric hybrid drivetrain.

The standard petrol unit produces 133kW of power at 6000rpm and 231Nm of torque at 4100rpm. The dual-exhaust system in Atara variants ups those figures to 135kW/235Nm at the same rpm. All petrol Camry models are fitted with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Hybrid versions add a 105kW/270Nm electric motor and swap the six-speed shifter for a continuously-variable transmission (CVT) for a combined power output of 151kW.

Fuel consumption is rated at 7.9 litres per 100km for petrol models and 5.2L/100km for hybrid variants on the combined cycle.

Every new Toyota Camry is covered by the company's ‘Service Advantage’ capped-price maintenance which includes up to five standard scheduled services priced at $140 over the first four years or 75,000km, whichever comes first.

Pricing for the 2016 Toyota Camry starts at $26,490 plus on-road costs for the base petrol-powered Altise and tops out at $40,440 plus on-roads for the hybrid-equipped Atara SL. The only price change for the 2016-model is a $1500 increase for the Atara SX variant.

The updated Camry range goes on sale locally June 6.
