Citroen C4 Cactus Rip Curl revealed, Australian debut unlikely
French car maker Citroen has unveiled a special edition of its C4 Cactus, created alongside legendary Australian surf brand Rip Curl.
If the pairing seems an odd one, consider that years past have given us collaborative oddities like the Reebok-branded Nissan Pulsar and the Volkswagen Beetle Fender edition.
A lifestyle-focussed compact SUV decked out with surf branding, then, should seem like just another round of back-patting at the marketing agency.
The strangest news, however, is that this tie-up of the locally-offered C4 Cactus and one of Australia's most iconic brands... will not be offered here any time soon. For now, it's a Euro-market proposition only.
Among the C4 Cactus Rip curl's features are a number of visual enhancements inside and out, including orange trim on the speaker surrounds, floor mats and seat belts. Additionally, a graphics pack adorns the front and rear quarter panels, featuring the ‘Rip Curl’ insignia.
While the lion’s share of changes are cosmetic, the special edition has been fitted with Citroen’s Grip Control traction system, which sends power to whichever wheel has the most traction.
The car has also been fitted with special Goodyear 4 Season tyres wrapped around 17-inch alloy wheels.
For those markets receiving shipment of the special-edition Cactus, it can be ordered in five different colours: Obsidian black, Pearl White, Arctic Steel, Sport Red or Tapenade Grey.
When the special edition goes on sale, it will be offered with both an 81kW/205Nm 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 68kW/230Nm 1.6-litre turbo-diesel.
Pricing for the Rip Curl Edition starts at 18,480 pounds (AUD$37,512) for the PureTech 110 petrol and 19,210 pounds (AUD$38,994) for the BlueHDi 100 diesel.
While Citroen Australia’s Tyson Bowen confirmed this week that PSA’s local distributor, Sime Darby, has no plans to offer the vehicle in Australia, it is currently in talks with Citroen’s French headquarters to discuss future possibilities.
