2016 Volkswagen Touareg recalled for airbag fix – UPDATE

Update: The majority of affected Touaregs haven't been sold yet. See bottom of article for details

Volkswagen is recalling 59 vehicles from its 2016 Touareg SUV line over concerns that the fabric of the side airbag could tear.

The manufacturer reports that in the event of an accident, the fabric of the side airbag may tear during deployment.

This fault could reduce the effectiveness of the side airbag, increasing the risk of injury to the occupants of the vehicle in the event of a collision.

Affected Touaregs fall between the VIN range WVGZZZ7PZGD028584 to WVGZZZ7PZGD029833.

Volkswagen will contact owners of the 59 affected vehicles by mail. Customers can contact their local Volkswagen service centre or Volkswagen customer care on 1800 504 076 for more details.

UPDATE: A spokesperson from Volkswagen Australia has confirmed with CarAdvice that the majority of the 59 affected Touaregs haven't been sold or even reached dealers yet, meaning that the majority of the recall work will be done prior to the vehicles reaching customers.

The handful of customers that have purchased affected Touaregs will be notified and have the fault rectified free of charge.
