Hyundai Elantra recalled for airbag software issue

Sold in Australia between 2006 and 2010, the recall affects 5296 HD model Hyundai Elantra models built between January 2, 2008 and August 22, 2009.

Hyundai notes the airbags (both driver and passenger) could deploy when not required, which could cause injury - not to mention a hell of a fright - for occupants.

Updating the software on the airbag control unit changes the computational algorithm that instructs the airbags to deploy.

So far no cases have been reported in Australia and the fix, which can be performed at any Hyundai dealer, will take about 15 minutes to complete, at no cost to owners.
