2017 Abarth 595 revealed:: tiny hot hatch gets power bump, tweaked looks
Fiat Chrysler Australia may have only just recently launched its revised entry-level $27,500 Abarth 595 into the Australian market, but now there’s an even newer one: the 2017 Abarth 595.
That’s no surprise, either. With the wider Fiat 500 range given a facelift earlier this year, the arrival of the 2016 Abarth 595 in the little hatch’s older skin made it something of a placeholder for an anticipated makeover.
Today that nip-and-tuck has been revealed, bringing the same lighting and garnish changes that adorn the front and rear of the regular 500 range, along with new-look bumpers at both ends.
Perhaps more importantly, though, is the 595’s slight bump in power. It won’t blow your socks off any more than it did before, but the step up from 103kW in the current model to 108kW from the same 1.4-litre T-Jet engine is welcome nonetheless. Torque remains unchanged.
The 595 Turismo also gets a boost of about 4kW, now offering 123kW (and, again, 206Nm), while the 595 Competizione variant carries on with its 132kW/250Nm figures.
Only one other technical tweak is mentioned with this updated range: the option of a new mechanical limited-slip differential for the Competizione model.

Speaking with CarAdvice today, Fiat Chrysler Australia communications manager Andrew Chesterton said that local timing for this revised 595 is still to be confirmed.
But, with the current updated model only recently joining the local range, we shouldn’t expect to see this made-over and more powerful variant appear until sometime in 2017.
