2017 Chevrolet Camaro ‘Z/28’ spied
Our photographers have spotted the hottest version yet of the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro on and around the Nurburgring.
At the front, this Camaro prototype sports a refashioned front apron with massive lower air intake complete with a large honeycomb pattern. This is flanked by canards, while underneath there's an aggressive front splitter.
Along the flanks there are engorged sills that look sharp enough to slice sashimi, and it's impossible not to note that the rear tyres that seem wide enough to qualify for their own postcode.
Out the back, there are four large oval exhaust tips and an unmissable rear spoiler.
Many are tipping that this high-performance Camaro will be the sixth generation's incarnation of the Z/28, although that's not entirely a given.
It's not clear what's under the bonnet of this bewinged Camaro, but our spy team reports that it generates plenty of noise. It's possible that it could feature a more powerful version of the GM's 7.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8.
In the previous-generation Z/28 this motor churned out 373kW of power and 637Nm of torque to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.
Should Chevrolet decide to go with forced induction, it could opt for the LT4 6.2-litre supercharged V8. Under the bonnet of the latest Camaro ZL1 this motor develops 477kW of power and 868Nm of torque.
If this car is indeed the new Camaro Z/28 expect it to be stripped of many of the regular coupe's comfort features, such as sound deadening material, air conditioning, carpets, and tyre inflation kit.
Other weight saving features, like thinner window glass and reduced battery size are likely to feature. On the performance front, expect the new Z/28 to sport carbon ceramic brakes, adjustable dampers, and lightweight wheels.
Rumours indicate that the Camaro Z/28, or whatever this car is, will make its debut in 2017.
