Dodge Ram, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra recalled by Performax

Queensland-based specialist vehicle importer and converter Performax International has issued a number of recalls on several vehicles in its range of American heavy-duty pick-ups.

The company reports that models in the Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 ranges, as well as the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra lines, are all affected by varying faults.

Three examples of the Ram 2500 and 3500 pick-ups are being recalled over fears a steering-wheel wire harness could be chafed by the driver airbag module retainer spring.

The issue could cause an electrical short, potentially leading to an accidental deployment of the driver's side airbag, increasing the chance of a crash.

The affected vehicles were built between January 1 2012 and October 7 2014. The VINs of the vehicles are 3C6UR5GL4DG550220, 3C6UR5FLXEG121280 and 3C6UR5NL2EG114051.

Additionally, three vehicles in the 2500 and 3500 range, built between January 1 2010 and September 5 2013, have been recalled after it was found an electrical connector in the diesel-fuel heater may overheat, causing an O-ring to fail, potentially leading to a fuel leak.

Should this occur, leaking fuel from the filter/heater assembly may cause under-bonnet smoke, and could lead to an engine-compartment fire.

The VINs of affected vehicles are 3D7UT2CL4BG555273, 3C6UR5GL4DG550220 and 3C6UR5FLXEG121280.

Six examples of the Ram 2500 pick-ups have been recalled over fears the Occupant Restraint Control module may have been calibrated incorrectly.

According to the specialist converter, the calibrations for side-impacts may be overly sensitive. This could lead to the accidental deployment of the side airbag inflatable curtain (SABIC), seat airbag and seat pre-tensioner under certain driving conditions.

Should this occur, it could cause injury to both the driver and occupants.

The affected vehicles were built between January 1 2013 and January 26 2015 and fall into a VIN range of 3C6UR5XXXXX550220 and 3C6UR5XXXXX502105.

Also affecting the Ram 2500 and 3500 is a recall on 24 examples built between January 1 2012 and December 31 2015.

Affecting a VIN range of 3C6XXXXXXXX591004 to 3C7XXXXXXXX653516, it's claimed the front suspension track bar frame bracket may have been improperly welded during manufacture, meaning it may become detached. Should this occur, steering could be severely affected, leading to an accident.

Performax International has also issued a recall for the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 as well as the GMC 2500 and 3500 over fears the brake pedal pivot nut could become loose, leading to the brake pedal becoming inoperative.

In this case, the driver may be unable to properly operate the brake pedal, increasing the likelihood of an accident.

Affecting 74 heavy duty pick-ups built between January 1 2015 and March 30 2016, the vehicles sit in a VIN range of 1GC1XXXXXFF552571 and 1GT1XXXXXFF622868.

As all recalls have been issued by the vehicle’s importer, Performax International, it’s suggested that affected vehicles are returned to the company for the issue to be repaired.

ASV-imported models not affected

Vehicles imported and converted by American Special Vehicles - a joint venture between Ateco Automotive and Walkinshaw - are not affected by the defects, a spokesperson confirmed today.
