The show cars, dubbed HB-02 and HR-02, appear to feature different stages of production readiness, with the white HR-02 wearing a look more in-line with the brand’s current styling.
With a large Audi-like grille again dominating the front end, the HR-02 compact SUV concept’s styling reaches back to a more sporting look than that worn by any current Haval model.
The HR-02’s overall look and size suggests it could at some point replace the H2 that currently forms the entry point into the Haval range here in Australia.
“It’s very simple design, but very strong. There’s a lot of muscle that should please younger customers in Australia,” Leclercq said.
“It’s very agile, but sits well with a great presence, particularly with the larger grille and smaller headlamps.
“It’s very clean look, but there’s also lots of muscle and lots of jewellery. This is a vehicle that offers real quality and beautiful fit and finish,” he said.
Like the smaller HR, the HB-02’s design focuses on sporting proportions, with a long bonnet, tapered roof and belt-line, and a wide overall stance.
“We have pushed the functionality on HB-02 with a unique design on the side windows, but one that also offers fantastic visibility,” Leclercq said.
Neither concept has been confirmed for production, and mechanical details - if indeed any have been specified - were likewise not revealed.
But, with Haval declaring this the look of its future, we can likely expect to see elements of the HR-02 and HB-02’s styling on new models in the near future.
