2014-16 Nissan X-Trail recalled for tailgate fix

Nissan Australia is recalling its X-Trail SUV built between January 2014 and January 2016 over concerns that the gas arm supporting the tailgate may crack.

The manufacturer reports that due to a manufacturing fault, the paint coating applied to the gas arm does not comply with the design requirement for anti-corrosion.

As a result, the outer tube of the gas arm may corrode and crack, in turn leaking the pressurised gas.

Nissan says that if the defect occurs, the gas arm would be unable to support the opening of the tailgate, which could pose a potential injury hazard.

The recall affects 28,162 X-Trail vehicles that fall between the VIN range JN1***T32A0000005 to JN1***T32A0503959.

Vehicles equipped with power tailgates are not affected by the recall.

Affected owners will be contacted by mail when parts become available, which is likely to occur in the fourth quarter of 2016.
