2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport update revealed

Land Rover has announced its updated 2017 Discovery Sport for the UK market, debuting with a bigger display screen and a new Bluetooth-enabled tag tracking app.

Headlining the updated 2017 Discovery Sport’s feature list is the Tile app, which uses Bluetooth tags attached to important items - such as your keys or wallet - to track their whereabouts with your smartphone or the car’s infotainment system.

Pitched at busy parents caught up in the rush to school or work, the Tile app integrates with the car’s infotainment system, and once launched, issues alerts if specified items are not inside the vehicle. Users are even able to get on-screen directions to their last known location.

The 2017 model-year updates also include Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) updated 10.2-inch inControl Touch Pro infotainment system, replacing the old 8.0-inch unit, along with a new Graphite Pack option and a trio of new safety systems.

The revised inControl Touch Pro infotainment system and new screen join the Disco Sport after first appearing in the Jaguar XE, XF and Range Rover Evoque.

Land Rover claims the new unit replicates the look and feel of smartphone apps, allowing swipe and pinch gestures, along with a high-resolution 10.2-inch touchscreen with super-wide 21:9 aspect ratio.

The new infotainment system also features a 60GB Solid State Drive, and the unit is the first automotive use of Intel’s high-performance quad-core computing and graphics processor.

Features with the Graphite Pack include: ‘Dark Atlas’ graphite colour finish to the grille, bonnet logo and side vents, ‘Corris Grey’ contrasting roof colour and black mirror caps. The Graphite pack is optional on SE and SE Tech variants and also includes the option of new graphite 19-inch wheels.

Rounding out the 2017 update are three new safety systems. The Driver Condition Monitor alerts the driver via visual and audible warnings if it detects signs of drowsiness.

An Intelligent Speed Limiter scans speed limit signs and prompts the driver to accept the new limit, and once accepted the vehicle will automatically begin to slow the Discovery Sport to the required speed.

Finally, Lane Keep Assist uses the vehicle’s forward-facing camera to detect markings separating lanes, counter-steering gently if the driver begins to veer out of their lane without indicating.

Australia

Details of the updated Australian-market Discovery Sport are yet to be revealed, however a spokesperson for Land Rover has confirmed with CarAdvice that revisions to the local range will be detailed in a few weeks.

Additionally, the Land Rover spokesperson said that not all of the new features in the UK-market version will make it to the locally-available Discovery Sport.

Stay tuned for the Australian details in the coming weeks
