2015 Mercedes-Benz SLK recalled for battery fix

Mercedes-Benz has recalled 15 vehicles from its SLK sports car line over concerns that a battery failure could cause the car’s electric park brake and gear selector to fail.

The German manufacturer reports that in the event of a main battery failure, the electric ignition lock will not be supplied power from the backup battery.

As a result, if the vehicle’s engine stops during use - for example in traffic using the car’s idle stop-start system - the electric parking brake and the transmission’s “P” position cannot be engaged.

If this defect occurs, the vehicle cannot be restarted. Furthermore, stopping the vehicle from rolling would only be possible by operating the brake pedal, posing a significant hazard to the driver and other road users.

Affected SLK vehicles were sold from the 4th of February 2015 to the 28th of September 2015.

Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by mail. For more information, customers can contact Mercedes-Benz on their website.
