2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe on sale in Australia

The all-new 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe is now on sale in Australia, joining the sedan and wagon variants that landed locally in 2014.

The new 2016 C-Class coupe was first revealed in August last year, with the hero Mercedes-AMG C63 model debuting a week later.

The months since have also seen the new C-Class Cabriolet revealed, making its first appearance at the Geneva motor show earlier this year. That body style will round out the Australian range later this year.

Pricing for the new C-Class coupe, first detailed in March, kicks off from $65,900 for the C200 petrol and tops out with the $83,400 C300 petrol. The C250d diesel fills the space between with a $74,900 starting price. All exclude on-road costs.

Local pricing for the top-shelf C63 S model has also been set at $162,400 plus on-roads, but it won’t touch down in local showrooms until June.

The new C-Class coupe is 95mm longer and 40mm wider than its sedan sibling, while a focus on traditional two-door styling sees the bonnet stretched by an additional 40mm.

Engines

Power in the C200 is provided by a 135kW/300Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, with fuel consumption rated at 6.0L/100km. Mercedes claims a 0-100km/h time of 7.3 seconds.

In the middle of the sub-AMG range, the C250d is driven by a 150kW/500Nm 2.1-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel, with fuel consumption claimed at a far lower 4.4L/100km. No surprise, the 250d is also quicker than the entry petrol model, carving to 100km/h in a claimed 6.7 seconds.

Moving up to the C300 means landing a higher-spec tune of the 2.0-litre unit that motivates the C200, with numbers listed at 180kW and 370Nm. The 0-100km/h sprint is promised to be over in 6.0 seconds, and fuel use is listed at 6.6L/100km.

The hero C63 S, the more powerful of the two variants available internationally and the only one we’ll get here, will be driven by a 375kW/700Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. That means a claimed 3.9-second run to the ton, and fuel figures of 8.7L/100km.

We can also expect the new ‘entry-level’ AMG, the C43, to join the range in October, offering a 270kW/520Nm 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6.

Local pricing and specifications for that model are still to be revealed.

Features

Standout standard features for the coupe, starting with the C200, include the AMG Line styling kit with 18-inch alloy wheels, along with an Artico-trimmed dash, auto belt feeders, black ash wood trim, and memory seats.

There's also a 360 bird’s-eye-view camera, along with active park assist, LED headlights, DAB+ digital radio and satellite navigation.

The C250d carries the same equipment and features, while the C300 adds bigger 19-inch wheels, privacy glass, a sports exhaust system, Mercedes Comand online infotainment connectivity and Burmester sound.

When it arrives, the C63 S coupe’s highlights will include 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, a performance exhaust system and an electronic differential. There’s also AMG seats with heating, digital TV, head-up display, Nappa upholstery and panoramic sunroof.

A $10,900 Edition 1 package will also be offered for early birds, adding yellow decals, an aerodynamics package, ceramic brakes (front) and selenite grey magno paint.
