Honda Avancier:: China-only SUV flagship revealed

Honda has unveiled its all-new Avancier SUV at the Beijing motor show this week.

The large coupe-like crossover will sit above the CR-V in Honda’s Chinese lineup, and is the production version of the Concept D show car that was on display at last year’s Shanghai motor show.

Positioned as Honda’s new SUV flagship, the Avancier looks to be fairly luxurious, with LED headlights, a large central touchscreen, tri-zone climate control, a panoramic glass roof, ventilated seats and lashings of leather and dark wood trim.

Desing-wise, the bold front-end wouldn’t look out of place with Honda's premium brand Acura, and the sloping rear roofline gives the Avancier an athletic, coupe-like profile.

The five-seat SUV is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged VTEC engine, mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission that features steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles. Power figures are yet to be released.

Reports suggest that a naturally-aspirated 2.4-litre petrol will power entry-level variants and there is speculation a hybrid variant will follow.

The Avancier is expected to go on sale in China by the end of 2016, competing with the likes of the Ford Edge and the Toyota Highlander (Kluger).

Don’t expect to see an Avancier in Australian showrooms, however. Honda Australia has confirmed that the model will not be sold outside of China.
