Mitsubishi i MiEV wins UK Electric Vehicle of the Year

The all-electric Mitsubishi i MiEV, as driven by CarAdvice earlier this year, has scooped the UK's Electric Vehicle of the Year at the GreenFleet awards ceremony.

The i MiEV was praised for its four seat practicality, range and charge time. It also scored highly for the simplicity with which it could be used, thanks to the use of conventional controls and functional cabin layout.

"The i MiEV is only the start of an exciting future for Mitsubishi Motors. At the end of this month we’ll be showing the Concept PX-MiEV at the Tokyo Motorshow, a next-generation plug-in hybrid with 141 mpg, and we already have other great environmental technologies such as ClearTec," said Mitsubishi Motors’ UK Sales and Marketing Director, Toby Marshall. "This low CO2 technology is already on the Colt city car, and will soon be arriving on many other vehicles in the Mitsubishi line up."

The i MiEV is a fully electric city car with zero emissions and a top speed of 130km/h. It has a range of 160km and can be trickle charged from flat to full in six hours by any domestic socket. An average charge costs just 96p (AUD$1.71), or roughly 20,000km for AUD$205. In addition, the i MiEV can be fast-charged from flat to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes.

The first 25 i MiEVs arrive in the UK in November 2009 where they are taking part in the Technology Strategy Board Ultra Low Carbon Vehicle Demonstrator Programme in the West Midlands.
