Bentley Bentayga:: $420,600 starting price for Australia

The big new 2017 Bentley Bentayga will be available from just under half-a-million dollars, before on-road costs, when it touches down in Australia later this year.

According to data published this week with the automotive specifications database Redbook, the Bentayga range will begin at $420,600, with the extra-special First Edition model priced from $624,400 plus on-road costs.

Both will be powered by Bentley’s all-new twin-turbo 6.0 litre W12 engine, producing 447kW at 6000rpm and 900Nm of torque between 1250 and 4500rpm.

Bentley says the new direct- and indirect-injected engine will push the Bentayga to 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 301km/h.

Fuel consumption figures for Australia are listed at 13.1L/100km on the combined cycle, dropping as low as a claimed 9.6L/100km in highway driving.

Among the extensive standard features listed for the Bentayga are 21-inch alloy wheels, a 10-speaker stereo, leather seats and steering wheel, woodgrain inserts, auto-levelling air suspension and an active torque transfer system.

As outlined in our international drive review, the options list for the Bentayga is even more extensive, with highlights including a $12,440 all-terrain system (a camera and guard pack), a $10,803 “City specification” (an advanced safety systems pack), a $13,213 head-up display, and a 22-inch wheel upgrade that costs between $6937 and $11,937.

There are also paint options that vary from $11,794 to a fully personalised option at $66,944, a four-seat “Comfort” package at $22,740 and a rear-seat entertainment upgrade (with Google Maps integration) at $14,767 - among many more options.

Ticking most of the options boxes, without doubling up on conflicting choices, can easily add another $290,000 to the Bentayga’s price.

Many of those items are, of course, standard-fit in the First Edition model, which is priced from $624,400.

In the wider Bentley range, the Bentayga’s entry pricing positions it beneath variants in the Continental GT and Flying Spur lines, while the top end of the family remains dominated by the $662,858 to $733,387 Mulsanne range.
