Should this occur, the driver could lose control of the vehicle posing a threat to occupants, pedestrians and other road users.
Ateco Australia says it is yet to record any instances of the issue occurring, however, 907 vehicles in Australia and 111 in New Zealand could be at risk.
Owners are advised to contact an authorised Maserati dealer to arrange the replacement of the floor mats and/or accelerator pedal, as required.
