2010 Kia Cerato recalled over transmission fluid leak

Kia has issued a recall for its TD-series Cerato small car, over concerns that automatic models could leak transmission fluid.

The car maker reports that, during the manufacturing process, the automatic transmission fluid cooler hose may have been improperly cured, increasing the risk of fluid leakage.

Should transmission fluid begin to leak, it may result in abnormal shifting and reduced vehicle mobility, posing a hazard to occupants and other road users.

It could also cause the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) to illuminate.

The recall affects 409 vehicles in the VIN range of KNAFXXXXXX5305381 to KNAFXXXXXX5363483. The affected vehicles were produced between the August 27 and November 11, 2010.

Owners of affected vehicles are urged to contact their local Kia dealer and schedule an appointment to have their transmission cooling lines replaced.
