The recall centres on concerns that a circlip (a type of fastening ring) located on the bearing bracket of the brake pedal may become detached. This could cause a pin to become dislodged from one of the bearings in the mechanism.
Should this occur, braking effectiveness could be diminished, causing a safety risk to both occupants and other road users.
This latest recall comes just days after the German car maker issued a recall of its 2015 and 2016 Passat wagons due to a sunroof fault.
Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted via mail.
