Range Rover preparing BMW X6 rival for 2017 – report

Jaguar Land Rover is reportedly prepping a Range Rover "coupe" SUV to take on the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.

Anonymous sources have told Autocar that the Tata-owned luxury car maker is working on an all-new model for the Range Rover lineup. The new model, potentially named Range Rover Sport Coupe, is slated to go on sale before the end of 2017, at least in overseas markets.

Under the skin, the new Range Rover will share a lot in common with the Jaguar F-Pace, with both vehicles using the same basic suspension components and the company's new iQ[Al] component matrix.

The new Range Rover will reportedly borrow the long bonnet proportions of the F-Pace. The magazine understands that the new Rangie will measure 4.7 metres in length, a fair chunk smaller than the 4.85m Range Rover Sport, but significantly larger than the 4.37m Evoque.

The Sport Coupe will be offered in both four- and five-seat configurations, and will be priced against the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.

Motivation is said to come courtesy of the company's V6 and V8 engines. It's unknown if the four-cylinder Ingenium engines offered in the F-Pace will be available in the new Range Rover.

Further down the track, the new Sport Coupe could also be offered as a hybrid and, potentially, as a full EV.
