2016 Mitsubishi Mirage pricing and specifications: Refreshed looks, revised chassis

The 2016 Mitsubishi Mirage hatch and sedan have been given a fresh update for 2016, with a number of styling and performance enhancements on offer across the range.

The price of entry is up for 2016, but Mitsubishi says the increase is joined by a number of improvements. The line-up now kicks off at $12,250 plus on-road costs (up $260) and the now auto-only hatch LS is priced at $15,250 (up $260).

For the new model year, the Mirage hatch gets redesigned front and rear bumpers, a brand-new grille with chrome accents, and an updated wheel design.

Inside the cabin, both the ES and LS variants have gained a number of interior improvements, including a new high-grade seating trim to complement the current all-black scheme, as well as new cushion stitching for the rear seats.

A chrome accent has been added to the audio panel and the LS receives piano-black accents to the gear shift panel and around the power window switches in the front and back.

A vanity mirror, lid and ticket holder has also been added to the passenger-side sun visor.

Mitsubishi says that changes beneath the skin mean a more pleasant driving experience, including better steering, more balanced handling and increased ride comfort, thanks to a comprehensive rework of the suspension and a re-calibration of the electronic power steering system.

While the hatch has received the lion’s share of upgrades, the sedan has not been ignored. The compact city car now offers an improved ride thanks to the same suspension and electronic power steering modifications as the hatch, including a complete damper and spring tune to minimise body roll.

Interior additions include a new three-dial air conditioning control for the ES and an updated high-contrast meter cluster with an added outside temperature reading for the LS.

The LS sedan gets the same piano-black and chrome accents as the hatch as well as a new three-spoke leather steering wheel.

Mitsubishi has added two new premium paint colours ($550) to the hatch range, Wine Red and Sunrise Orange, however, the latter will not be available in the sedan range.

Hill Start Assist will now be standard across the board and cruise control has been added to the LS sedan.

The Mirage is offered with a full five-year/100,000km new car warranty and five-year Roadside Assist. Mitsubishi says that, thanks to a revised four-year servicing plan, the Mirage is now also $270 more affordable to maintain than before.
