2017 Mercedes-AMG GLC43 4Matic sketched out ahead of New York debut

The new Mercedes-AMG GLC43 4Matic Coupe has been teased via a new sketch ahead its debut in New York this week.

Under the bonnet the hot GLC Coupe will feature a version of the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 that's already powering the SLC43, E43 and regular GLC43, amongst others.

In most of its applications, the unsigned V6 makes 270kW of power and 520Nm of torque, although for the recently unveiled E43 power output has been upped to 295kW. Given that the non-Coupe GLC43, which was revealed just days ago, uses the 270kW/520Nm version, we expect the GLC Coupe to follow suit.

In the regular GLC, the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 is paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission and a 4Matic all-wheel drive system that splits torque 31:69 front-to-rear. Thus configured, the GLC43 is capable of a 0-100km/h time of 4.9 seconds.

The look of the GLC Coupe has already been previewed extensively, first with a concept that debuted at last year's Shanghai motor show, and subsequently by spy photos and an officially sanctioned prototype teaser.

In the transition from concept to production, the GLC has lost some of the concept's aggression, while gaining framed side windows and larger lights.

When the GLC Coupe goes on sale, it will be the second SUV "coupe" in the Mercedes-Benz range after the GLE Coupe, which was released in 2015. The new GLC Coupe will provide direct competition for the BMW X4.

Mechanically and technically the new GLC Coupe will share most of its components with the more practical GLC SUV, which was went on sale last year.

Australia

Although timing has yet to be confirmed, we'd expect to see the new GLC Coupe to arrive in local showrooms towards the end of 2016 or in the early part of 2017.
