2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe spied in cold-weather testing
Spy photos have once again revealed details of the upcoming 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, ahead of an Australian debut likely to occur later this year or early in 2017.
Last year, CarAdvice published similar photos of the Coupe in its testing phase, however, these latest photos reveal a number of key new details that show just how close the GLC Coupe's final styling will come to its concept progenitor.
Revealed in concept form at the 2015 Shanghai motor show, the GLC Coupe was later confirmed as an official production model that will sit alongside the more practical and recently launched GLC.
Just as the mid-sized GLC was introduced to rival BMW's long-running X3 SUV on the global stage, the GLC Coupe will tackle the more sports-styled BMW X4.
Among the obvious styling changes from the original concept, the production model of the GLC Coupe will feature a more accommodating glasshouse and slightly larger tail lights.
And, while the concept's front bumper design and exhaust layout hints at the inevitable AMG hero model, the prototype spied here clearly sits further down the range.
With still nothing confirmed in terms of model specifications, it’s expected that the GLC Coupe's powertrain options will largely mirror those on offer in the GLC. As such, Aussie buyers can expect both diesel and petrol variations.
For the diesel faithful, options in the new GLC Coupe will likely include the 125kW/400Nm 2.1-litre four-cylinder turbo engine currently doing service in the GLC 220d, or a higher-spec version of the engine churning out 150kW/500Nm in the GLC 250d.
Petrol options could include the 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder producing 155kW/350Nm. And, as with the most recent additions to the sportier end of the Mercedes range, we might also expect to see a GLC43 model appear in the future, driven by the same 270kW/520Nm turbo six that powers the new C43 sedan - among others.
While Mercedes has confirmed that Australia will receive the GLC Coupe, further details will likely come at the 2016 New York motor show, which opens on March 25.
