Spyker C8 Preliator displayed in New York

The new Spyker C8 Preliator has had its North American debut at the New York auto show.

First revealed at this year's Geneva motor show, the C8 Preliator is powered by a 4.2-litre Audi V8. Fitted with a supercharger, the German engine now produces 386kW of power at 6800rpm and 600Nm of torque at 3500rpm.

Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a either rear-mounted six-speed Getrag manual or six-speed ZF automatic. Spyker claims that the C8 Preliator can complete the 0-100km/h dash in 3.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 322km/h.

Compared to earlier Spyker models, aerodynamics have been smoothed out and downforce increased. Changes include a longer body, a new rear diffuser, revised honeycomb mesh grille, the addition of ailerons to the front front splitter and side skirts, and the deletion of the canopy air scoop, which is replaced by a NACA duct.

The C8 Preliator rides on Lotus double-wishbone suspension at both ends, 19-inch alloy wheels with 235/35 tyres up front, and 295/30 rubber at the rear. Stopping power is provided by AP Racing brakes, with carbon ceramic versions available as an option.

Thanks to its aluminium spaceframe construction, the latest Spyker is said to tip the scales at 1390kg.

Production of the C8 Preliator will begin in the last quarter of 2016 at the CPP Metalcraft factory in Coventry, UK. Spyker will cap output of the C8 Preliator to just 50 units over its lifetime.

In the US, the C8 Preliator is priced from US$354,990 ($462,000). That's a huge jump up from C8 Aileron that the Preliator is based on; the Aileron was had a list price of around US$200,000 ($260,000).
