2017 Subaru Impreza set for New York motor show, in Australia by December
The next-generation Subaru Impreza will make its global debut at the New York auto show on March 24.
Subaru isn't giving much away about the new Impreza, except to say that the small car has a completely redesigned interior and exterior, that it will be more spacious, and will feature the company's latest in-car and safety technology.
As with all export market Subarus since the late 1990s, the Impreza will come with standard all-wheel drive. Both the sedan and five-door hatch will be unveiled at the New York auto show.

The company unveiled a concept version of the new hatch was shown at last October's Tokyo motor show, with the sedan variant previewed a month later at the Los Angeles auto show. A conceptualised version of the next-gen high-riding XV hatch made its debut at this year's Geneva motor show.
It remains to be seen how toned down the production cars are in comparison to their concept cousins. From what we can see in the teaser image (top), the showroom-ready Impreza will feature slightly boxier lines and more conventionally shaped headlights.

Under the skin, the next-generation Impreza will be the first model to be based on the Subaru Global Platform, a scalable architecture that will eventually underpin all of the brand's non-kei car and Japanese domestic market offerings. This will include the next-gen Forester, likely to debut in 2018, Liberty, Outback, and the successor to the three-row Tribeca.

Depending on global demand, the new Impreza sedan and hatch are pencilled in for a December launch down under. The XV should arrive six months after that.
