2016 Subaru Impreza in Australia by December

The next-generation Subaru Impreza hatch and sedan will make it to Australia before the end of 2016.

The new Impreza small-car range is a wholesale change, because it will be the first car to use Subaru’s brand new global architecture.

The new Impreza sedan, previewed in concept form last November, is expected to make its world premiere at the New York motor show at the end of this month. The hatch version (concept version detailed) is expected to appear shortly after.

Both models are scheduled to launch in Australia simultaneously around December this year, Japanese supply pending.

They will be the most dynamic Impreza models to date, according to the brand. They will offer greatly enhanced body rigidity and noise, vibration and harshness suppression.

Symmetrical AWD driveline and boxer engines will continue, while Subaru’s EyeSight suite of active safety equipment should be rolled out in full on higher-grade versions.

About six months after the launch of the Impreza sedan and hatch, the all-new XV crossover — previewed in concept form last month in Geneva — will make its Australian premiere around July 2017. The next Forester will be 2018, in all likelihood.

The December 2016 Impreza launch should complement the imminent Australian launch of the Levorg wagon around July this year, and the hotted-up Forester tS around the same time. The company launched the revised Liberty, Outback and Forester last week.
