Fiat Tipo hatch and wagon revealed

The hatch and wagon body styles for the latest-generation Fiat Tipo have been unveiled at the 2016 Geneva motor show.

The new variants join the sedan that was revealed in the middle of 2015. Thanks to its reduced rear overhangs, the Tipo hatch measures 4.37 metres long, 1.79m wide and 1.5m tall, and has a claimed 440 litres worth of boot space.

According to Fiat's tape measure, the wagon is 4.57m from nose to tail — around the length of the sedan. The extra centimetres allow the wagon to carry 550 litres of gear in the boot. The cargo carrying space can be extended via 60/40 split flip and fold seats.

In terms of powerplants, the Tipo will be offered with a choice of two turbo-diesels and three petrol motors. Depending on the engine manual, automatic and automated twin-clutch transmissions are available.

Compression ignition fans can choose between a 71kW/200Nm 1.3-litre and a 89kW/320Nm 1.6-litre, while petrol buyers can select from either a 71kW/125Nm 1.4-litre, a 89kW/206Nm 1.4-litre turbo or a 82kW/152Nm 1.6-litre.

The Tipo range will be built in Turkey by joint venture partner Tofas, where the car will be known as the Aegea. Tipo availability has been confirmed for the Middle East, Africa and Europe, including the UK.

In the UK, the Tipo will be offered with standard electric windows, air conditioning, six airbags, digital radio, Bluetooth phone connectivity and steering wheel audio controls.

Last year Fiat Australia told CarAdvice that "there’s no immediate plans to introduce the Fiat Agea into our Australian line-up".
